Homecoming ceremony and ribbon-cutting to commemorate

Family Promise of Western New York, an emergency homeless shelter for families, is kicking off a year of festivities celebrating 25 years serving the community with a homecoming ceremony and ribbon-cutting at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 24.

The honorary chair of the ceremony will be New York State Sen. Tim Kennedy with additional speakers, including Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes. The event will be followed by a ribbon-cutting at noon to commemorate recent renovations to the building allowing the program to double in capacity.

The celebrations will continue with a family picnic on the lawn of 75 Hickory St., Buffalo, including a food truck, live band and bounce house.

“Family Promise has thrived in our community over the past 25 years because of the dedication of our amazing network of community supporters,” Executive Director Luanne Firestone said. “We would like to kick off our anniversary with these homecoming celebrations to thank our network for all the love they have shown the families in our program. We also want to showcase our renovated shelter – complete with colorful murals by various local artists – and our small-scale program, which has an amazing success rate. Over 90% of the families in this shelter transition out of homelessness and into housing. All are welcome to this party – it should be fun for the whole family!”

Family Promise of WNY is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, community-driven organization that “strives to live their mission of keeping families experiencing homelessness together by offering emergency housing and compassionate support as they work to find their way back home.”
