St. Peter R.C. School in Lewiston celebrated Flag Day on Friday with a group gathering in front of the church rectory. Students recited the Pledge of Allegiance before receiving a blessing from the Rev. Cole Webster. They then planted small American flags in the ground.
Special guests on hand to watch the ceremony including Dennis Coffey and John Bruno. Both men served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Coffey is a Purple Heart recipient.
Liz Colvin – John’s daughter – coordinated the event. She is the Home School Association vice president.
“St. Peter School participates each year in an event/activity honoring our veterans, prisoners of war and active service men and women who may be family and friends of our students, St. Peter's parishioners and community members. This year, we are doing so in tandem with Flag Day,” she said.
Colvin noted, “Each classroom is working on cards for our local veterans thanking them for their service and/or writing a note of encouragement.”
Cards will be delivered to the VA.
