NT: Community Development director leaving for new job

Earlier this week, Michael Zimmerman announced his resignation as director of community development, effective May 14.

In his letter of resignation, published in the Common Council’s May 4 agenda, Zimmerman expressed an affinity for the city and thanked various officials who supported him along his almost decade-long tenure in the position.

“I have worked in North Tonawanda through Lumber City Development and the Community Development office for almost 10 years. In that time, I have worked for two mayors and numerous aldermen, all of whom provided nothing but support and respect to me and my office,” he said. “It has been a pleasure working for all of you past and present and I would like to sincerely thank you for your support. I would also like to thank my fellow department heads and colleagues in city government, it has been a pleasure working with all of you.

“North Tonawanda is a city I'm proud to call home. Thank you for the opportunity to work in this wonderful community. I look forward to seeing and working with all of you again in the future.”

The Tribune/Sentinel reached out to Zimmerman’s office for comment via email, but has yet to receive a response.

During the meeting, 2nd Ward Alderman Frank DiBernardo said Zimmerman was taking a position “in the private sector.” 

Toward the meeting's end, council members thanked and applauded Zimmerman for the work he had done for the city. 

“Being a member of the (Lumber City Development Corp.), Mike has done as much as possible to ensure new development opportunities are welcomed, ensuring payments are timely and new grants have been pursued, discovered and sought out for development. (We) wish Mike the best in his new pursuits,” 1st Ward Alderman Robert Schmigel said.
