Niagara Falls Police Department executes impact patrol operation

On Saturday, the Niagara Falls Police Department, in collaboration with several other law enforcement agencies, executed a joint impact patrol operation to focus on crime in the City of Niagara Falls.

The mayor’s office stated, “This type of operation is conducted periodically utilizing an organized collection of agencies to bring in known criminals. This operation included efforts from the Niagara County Sheriff's Department, U.S. Border Patrol, Lockport Police Department, North Tonawanda Police Department, ATF, probation officers, parole officers, K-9 units and narcotics.”

This operation resulted in 50 traffic citations, four DWI arrests, one felony DWI, and 14 arrest charges ranging from felony warrant violations of probation to criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The press release noted the agencies involved organized this increased police force saturation through joint efforts to patrol the city, specifically in search of those with felony warrant violations. The agencies involved also focused on areas of high, repeated activity in the city, marking them as hot spots.

Mayor Robert Restaino expressed his satisfaction with the operation: "The residents of the City of Niagara Falls need to know that my administration is committed to keeping our community safe. Our police department will continue to combat violence in our city and, working with other law enforcement agencies, we intend to take action to do what it takes to promote safety."

During the briefing with officers preoperation, NFPD Superintendent John Faso said, "This operation is our department's response to the violent crime that is being perpetrated in the City of Niagara Falls. We want to keep the streets safe and clear of crime by removing known criminals."

Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti added, "I want to thank Chief Faso for the great working relationship. Our collaborative effort is only possible through the continued positive relationship between our agencies. We hope to do more operations like this in the future."
