Local public administration association ASPA Buffalo Niagara Chapter hosts ‘WNY Feud’ on Saturday, May 22; seeks teams for trivia

ASPA Buffalo Niagara Chapter – the local chapter of the American Society for Public Administration – recently launched its first charity fundraiser and seeks teams of five to play a "Family Feud"-style online trivia game later this month.

"WNY Feud" will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 22, via Zoom, with all proceeds benefiting the Northland Workforce Training Center's emergency management fund. Interested participants and supporters can learn more details and donate now by visiting aspabuffaloniagara.org – the website for ASPA Buffalo Niagara Chapter.

The four teams that raise the most funds will play a tournament-style online game of "Family Feud," with questions all tailored toward Western New York general knowledge and popular attractions. The winning team of five will receive a generously donated axe-throwing session at a local Hatchets and Hops location.

The emergency support fund is an emergency resource available to Northland Workforce Training Center students on a case-by-case basis to mitigate unexpected expenses that may affect program completion. Emergency funds cover expenses ranging from specialized boots required for labs, home electric and gas bills, rent, security deposits to obtain new housing, car repairs and mortgage payments. ASPA Buffalo Niagara Chapter aims to raise at least $750 through "WNY Feud" – enough funds to typically benefit two Northland students.

"ASPA Buffalo Niagara Chapter enthusiastically supports the mission of Northland Workforce Training Center," said Tony Astran, current chapter president and communications officer. "Western New York continues to enjoy a rebirth, but our region will not reach its full potential and sustain growth unless all residents have an opportunity to contribute. Northland does exactly that – by promoting a diverse body of workers and equipping them to succeed throughout their entire careers."

The American Society for Public Administration has 61 local chapters and nearly 10,000 members. It strives to advance the art, science, teaching and practice of public and nonprofit administration. Locally, ASPA Buffalo Niagara Chapter revived in 2018 and now comprises 35 members and growing. The organization regularly co-sponsors the annual Public Service Recognition Week conference in April at SUNY Buffalo State. More information is available at https://www.aspabuffaloniagara.org and the chapter's social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn).
