Buffalo Music Hall of Fame: 2020 Lucille and Jack Yellen Foundation songwriter's scholarship competition

The Buffalo Music Hall of Fame, in collaboration with the Lucille and Jack Yellen Foundation, announced the 2020 songwriter’s scholarship competition will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at The Cave, 71 Military Road, Buffalo. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a limited audience and prior reservations are required.

Since 2013, the Lucille and Jack Yellen Foundation and the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame have been awarding young songwriters up to the age of 23 the chance to professionally record an original song.

A press release said, “The Buffalo Music Hall of Fame was not able to hold the scheduled songwriter’s scholarship competition in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are happy to have our 2020 contestants compete this year in this long-awaited showcase.”

Three songwriters from WNY – Teddy Hibbard, Cameron Markott and John Fera – will play their original songs and compete in a live performance showcase for the chance to win the scholarship.

A panel of judges comprised of three BMHOF Inductees will score each songwriter. The scores will be totaled together, and the young songwriter with the highest score will receive the Lucille and Jack Yellen songwriter’s scholarship.

That deserving recipient’s scholarship entails a recording session at Black Rock EPS recording studio. They will have the winning song recorded, mixed and mastered. BMHOF inductees will be on hand as session musicians and mentors. The song will then be placed on a CD and presented to the songwriter.
