Unites across upstate New York

Four markets across upstate New York (Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse and Albany) are joining forces to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure.

The 2021 Tour de Cure Upstate New York will be held virtually this year on Saturday, June 12, allowing individuals and companies throughout the region the opportunity to continue to support the agency’s mission. The interactive event will advance efforts in the fight on the diabetes epidemic.

Moving forward, the four communities will continue to participate as one region in future years when the tour returns to in-person events.

“This is a milestone year for the Tour de Cure, and we’re excited to unite across upstate New York to raise much-needed funds for diabetes research, education and advocacy,” Executive Director Jeff Collins said. “We know that our efforts will be stronger and more effective together as one region. Social media is a powerful tool to help us communicate and stay engaged while serving as a prime example of the ADA motto, ‘Connected for Life!’ ”

The Virtual 2021 Tour de Cure: Upstate New York will encourage participants to focus on the three main components, including:

√ Being active and committing to ride at one’s own pace on the route of their choice in local neighborhoods on the event day. Participants are asked to wear red to represent the ADA and complete their intended distance. Additional ways to engage virtually can be found at diabetes.org/upstatetour.

√ Continuing to fundraise, because the 34 million Americans with diabetes are counting on support of the ADA’s mission.

√ Celebrating one’s journey by posting, sharing and showcasing efforts on social media using the hashtag #TourTurns30 and tagging @AmDiabetesAssn to get featured. Join the conversation on the community Facebook group to stay connected.

Founded in Buffalo, Tour de Cure brings together thousands of riders in cities across America to raise funds to support diabetes research and provide education and advocacy for people living with diabetes and their families.

About the American Diabetes Association

Every day, more than 4,000 people are newly diagnosed with diabetes in America. More than 122 million Americans have diabetes or prediabetes and are striving to manage their lives while living with the disease. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is the nation’s leading voluntary health organization fighting to bend the curve on the diabetes epidemic and help people living with diabetes thrive. For nearly 80 years, the ADA has been driving discovery and research to treat, manage and prevent diabetes, while working relentlessly for a cure. We help people with diabetes thrive by fighting for their rights and developing programs, advocacy and education designed to improve their quality of life. Diabetes has brought us together.
