In New York, HUD awarded $5,282,749 to these Native American communities: Cayuga Nation, Oneida Indian Nation of New York, Seneca Nation of New York, Shinnecock Indian Nation, St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, Tonawanda Band of Seneca and Tuscarora Nation.
“The IHBG program supports the commitment of tribes across the country to their communities through funding affordable housing and housing activities,” HUD Acting Secretary Matthew E. Ammon said. “The U.S. government has a responsibility to carry out trust obligations to Indian tribes and, with this funding, HUD is acting to meet these obligations.”
"With this funding commitment, HUD recognizes the important role of Native American tribes in shaping New York’s economic future," said Stephen Murphy, HUD deputy regional administrator for New York and New Jersey. "Our partnership with these local leaders today will create more affordable housing opportunities, robust economic development, and stronger communities tomorrow.”
The IHBG program is a formula grant that provides a range of affordable housing activities on reservations and related areas. Eligible activities include housing development, operation and modernization of existing housing, housing services to eligible families and individuals, crime prevention and safety, and model activities that provide creative approaches to solving affordable housing problems.
The final allocation summaries are posted on the ONAP Codetalk website.
