Calling all artists! Gateway Harbor of the Tonawandas, in conjunction with Lumber City Development Corp. and Project Pride, is accepting artistic proposals for a mural to be painted at Gateway Harbor using a seating nook along the docks, just west of the Main Street Bridge as the canvas.

Located at the western terminus of the historic Erie Canal, Gateway Harbor Park is a centerpiece of downtown North Tonawanda and has become a premier boating and recreation destination in Western New York.

The goal is to celebrate the historic Erie Canal, while providing a point of celebration and interest for the community to enjoy. The design must incorporate the Erie Canal or North Tonawanda’s Erie Canal heritage. There will be no logos, profanity or commercial imagery allowed.

Work would consist of a design as well as a production of work on site, which must be executed by selected artists. The selected vendor must properly prime and prepare the area, and a high-quality exterior varnish will be required to secure the longevity of the mural.

Artist proposals are to include all proposed costs, such as materials, installation, artist fees, etc. Affordability of the project cost will be weighted in the selection process, with a budget of up to $7,500.

Funding for the project is completed by LCDC, Project Pride and an Erie Canalway grant.

All proposals are due by 4:30 p.m. April 5. Late submissions will not be considered.
