Members of the Youngstown Recreation Commission and their families hope to bring more holiday spirit to the local community. Saturday, Dec. 12, had been the scheduled date for the annual Youngstown “Christmas in the Village” and children's Christmas party, where the Recreation Commission would have offered Santa visits, cookie decorating and holiday crafts.

Due to COVID-19 precautions and many community events being canceled this year, the Youngstown Recreation Commission decided to light up Falkner Park by adding two decorated trees and additional lights in the picnic shelter and along the lighted walkway.

We hope that the community will enjoy a stroll through the park during this season and maybe even have a snowball fight or build a snowman/igloo under the lights once the snow makes an appearance.

The Youngstown Recreation Commission also wants to help those in need this season and is asking anyone who visits the park to drop a few canned goods in the collection boxes that have been placed under the picnic shelter. These canned goods will be brought to the Ransomville Care-N-Share Food Pantry, who regularly serves those in need in our community.

The Youngstown Recreation Commission is hopeful that we may be able to offer some of our regular programs in the coming year as well as offering additional outdoor events for local families. There may be new sanitizing and sign-up procedures, but we are determined to bring fun and recreation back to the community.
