As Niagara County and parts of Lewiston have seen an increase in the number of positive coronavirus cases of late, the village has canceled its tree-lighting ceremony.

The annual event is normally held in Hennepin Park on the first Friday in December. It was slated to take place next Saturday in Academy Park, to provide additional spacing for event attendees.

Now, pending any new micro-cluster action initiative zoning, River Region merchants still plan to be open and welcome in-person and online shoppers for Small Business Saturday, Nov. 28.

In an effort to further assist local businesses this season and throughout the winter, the Village of Lewiston Board is relaxing its restriction on the use of “sandwich board” or A-frame signs. Trustees agreed use of these signs would be permitted during business hours of operation – so long as the signs are outside of the public’s right-of-way.

This permission was granted through May 2021.
