McMurray calls for additional debate, truce on ads

Nate McMurray, Democratic candidate for Congress in New York’s 27th Congressional District, released the following statement:

“The people of Western New York have had just one semipublic opportunity to hear from all three candidates in this race. The debate held at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute was a win for public discourse and our democracy. The people of NY-27, more than nearly any other district in the country, deserve absolute transparency in the process of electing their next full-term representative in Congress.

“I am calling on Chris Jacobs to agree to one more debate or town hall, broadcast to the public. Instead of soundbites and false one-way political ads and mailers, we can speak directly with the voters.

“If we had a series of debates and zero television advertising, imagine what it could do for our democratic process and the voters' blood pressure. Let’s have this debate, take our ads down, and donate the hundreds of thousands of dollars to a mutually agreed upon charity in NY-27. I am willing to debate anywhere, any time, and I know Libertarian candidate Duane Whitmer will be as well.

“This would send a message that Western New York voters can believe in. America should not just be for the rich, and Congress should not just be for those who can buy the most ad time. As I said at St. Joe’s: I love America, and I believe in America. Let’s do our part right now to steer our country toward a better political moment of dialogue, transparency, and leadership in pursuit of our democratic ideals.”
