Golden Age Center upgraded during closure

The Town of Grand Island’s senior services staff used downtime during the COVID-19 pandemic to upgrade the Grand Island Golden Age Center.

“In the time that we’ve been closed, we’ve been able to reorganize,” said Recreation Supervisor Jennifer Menter. She said time was used to paint the facility, to get everything reorganized and socially distant “and to flip our senior center to get it ready for reopening, to welcome back our seniors, and to create these policies to make it safe and healthy for their return.”

“I welcome everybody back and hope that they’re ready to come back for fun and to gather and to enjoy the time together once again,” Menter said.

“I think senior services is absolutely essential. I think it’s essential for very many different reasons: for the social aspects, for the mental aspects, for the nutritional aspects, and for the recreational aspects,” said Menter. “It’s been a very long time that we’ve been closed, and I have a very solid safety plans that I’ve written to be able to safely reopen.”
