Lewiston Dance recently held a ribbon and award ceremony for its dancers. Cars pulled through the parking lot and, with music playing, each dancer got out of the car in full costume. The teachers cheered them on as they made their way to the red carpet to receive their ribbons or awards and get their photo taken.

“So much has been taken from these dancers, we just wanted to give them something back. To see the smiles on their faces and all dressed up in costume was wonderful!” said Miss Kayla, a studio instructor.

Lewiston Dance started teaching dance class through Zoom as soon as COVID-19 restrictions closed the company down. Rachel Novelli, studio owner, sat down with her manager, Kayla Fyfe, and learned to use Zoom right away. They started with a full schedule that allowed all of their students to take part in online learning. The studio offered these classes for free.

A press release said, “We didn’t feel that the level of instruction you can give online was up to our high, in-person teaching standards. We just didn’t feel it was fair to our dance families to charge them for something that some of them, for various reasons, were not even able to take part in.

“What happened next was so wonderful, we asked our dance families – if they were in a position to – to give a donation to help us with rent, bills, etc., that we would be grateful for any amount. Our families really helped us to get through. We are so lucky to have such loyal people in our lives.”

Last week, the Lewiston Dance Center held a successful summer camp.

“To get back to instructing and even more importantly just having some fun with the kids was so great”

The studio is located at 781 Cayuga St. Visit www.lewistondance.com.
