Youngstown Yacht Club to hold open house on July 20

Fri, Jul 17th 2020 12:05 pm

The Youngstown Yacht Club invites the community to experience the lower river lifestyle at its open house, set for 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 20.

Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served throughout evening, while guests have the opportunity to enjoy the clubhouse, view the amenities, ask questions and learn about all the benefits of memberships at YYC.

The Youngstown Yacht Club reports its members recently completed a fundraising campaign to purchase new keelboats for the Youngstown Sailing Foundation. These boats, Ideal 18’s, are used by the Junior Sailing program during the weekday and are available to Youngstown Yacht Club members to use during evenings and weekends through membership in the YYC’s “Boat Club.”

These Ideal 18’s boats are easy to sail with simplicity, comfort and performance in mind. In addition, there is a larger Catalina 30 keelboat available to Boat Club members, as well. The Youngstown Sailing Foundation is offering adult sailing lessons for those new to sailing.

Other YYC offerings include its youth summer camp that is now in operation at YYC’s Water Street facilities. Lewiston resident Julie Donnelly wished to share the following experience: “I wanted to share that the Youngstown Yacht club is in the third week of youth summer camp. Amidst all the overwhelming news, restrictions and climate of the United States we have a ray of sunshine locally. I have three children participating.

“Following home learning and quarantining this camp has been a welcome diversion and a boost to the kids well-being. Happiness! Two dedicated schoolteachers are coordinating and running the sailing program this summer (Justin Hays and Ryan Suitor). They started preparing weeks in advance to be COVID-compliant. It’s a joy to watch the kids team building, making friends and lasting memories while learning to sail. Kids as young as 6 years old this year learning to operate little prams, race team, adventure sailing, and opti boats. The Niagara River is host to it all!”

“We invite everyone in the area to come down and see all we have to offer at the Youngstown Yacht Club,” club officials added.

RSVPs are requested; call 716-745-7230, ext. 10, or email [email protected] by July 17. Include the number of guests attending.

Current social distancing and face mask rules apply.
