Lewiston-Porter superintendent's message to community

Sun, Mar 15th 2020 10:50 pm

Lewiston-Porter Superintendent of Schools Paul Casseri provided this message via the Lew-Port website Sunday night:

Dear Lew Port Families

As you are aware, the Niagara County Health Commissioner and the Niagara County Legislature have declared a State of Emergency in response to the COVID-19 crisis. As a result, Lewiston-Porter Central Schools Pre-K -12 will be closed to students beginning Monday, March 16 until further notice.

The district is currently working on plans to develop student work as well as food service distribution for families on free and reduced lunch. K-12 teachers and essential staff will be here tomorrow to finalize these plans into the foreseeable future. Building Principals, the District Technology Coordinator and Classroom teachers will be communicating with their students and families directly regarding details of these plans. Our plan is to begin a one meal, grab and go lunch distribution on Wednesday, March 18th for students/families on free and reduced lunch. Details on that distribution will be forthcoming.

Community Education is also cancelled. Refunds, where appropriate, will be processed in the days to come.

If you have specific questions, I would ask that you wait until all plans have been disseminated by the close of business tomorrow. We will have a list of emails to direct various questions regarding school operations. Once student work plans are out

This closure will be reevaluated on a weekly basis by the O/N Superintendents. I will keep you posted and updated as to this ever evolving status. I'm sure your most compelling question is..How long? I cannot say right now. I will be working with all officials involved to make the appropriate decision to reopen when that time comes.

I cannot emphasize enough what a serious matter this is. Students and families should follow the guidelines outlined by the CDC, Niagara County Health department and Erie County Health department.

Stay strong. You are a great and supportive community. We will make it through this together.
