Lewiston Council on the Arts receives NYS Council on the Arts decentralization funding

Lewiston Council on the Arts recently received notification of its award of decentralization grant funding in support of a new event, "Bug Fest," which will take place In Seneca "Bug" Park (adjacent to the Lewiston Library) from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 11.

LCA is working closely with children’s librarian Ann Siejka and assistant Amy Wall to create an event of bug-related art activities that will include bug-themed stories and activities, painting a river stone, making a traditional Native American "Jitterbug," and washing down a "bug" cookie with a swig of "beetle juice."

The LCA noted, “Our friends at Griffis Sculpture Park will loan the Art Council a ‘mosquito’ sculpture that will remain in the park throughout the summer. There will also be a commissioned carving of a functional piece of wood sculpture by a professional Chainsaw Chix, which will then be donated to the children's room at the library.”

Executive Director Irene Rykaszewski said, “It’s been so much fun developing a new children's program this year, and the bug theme makes it easy to get creative! We're grateful for the DEC grant funding that will make it possible for to present this free of charge to the community.”

This program is funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, administered by Arts Services Initiative of Western New York.
