This week, Niagara Falls USA is hosting the World Karate Commission Championships at the Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls. This internationally recognized event will bring approximately 2,000 families to the city from across the country and the world.

The WKC World Championships are an annual martial arts competition where competitors from all over the world assemble to test their skills against the of the best in their particular discipline. In order to be eligible to attend, competitors must be selected to represent their country by their respective national team president by competing at national championships, training camps, or a series of regional tournaments.

Destination Niagara President and CEO John Percy kicked-off opening ceremonies Monday morning with a welcome address alongside Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster.

Percy said, “We are thrilled to welcome the WKC World Championships to Niagara Falls USA. Being able to attract an event of this size and prestige is a true testament to the growth and development of our destination. We look forward to working with our local partners to continue to attract conferences and events of this magnitude that contribute so substantially to the local economy.”

A majority of the competition and seminars will take place at the Conference & Event Center and Sheraton Niagara Falls.

The Sheraton Niagara Falls and Wyndham Garden are the host hotels for this event, but with the high number of attendees, other hotel properties across Niagara Falls USA will host competitors and their families, as well. The total estimated economic impact is $1.9 million.
