A limited-edition commemorative stamp has been released that features the new Veterans of Foreign Wars Downriver Post 7487 “Circle of Honor,” which will be dedicated during a nighttime ceremony at 6:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11. The memorial is located at Academy Park in Lewiston.

“Yes, they are real stamps and can be used for postage,” VFW Cmdr. Bill Justyk said. “However, because they are so limited, our intent was to create a unique collectible that veteran supporters will keep as a remembrance and souvenir of this historic dedication."

Only 400 stamps have been printed. Sixty stamps have been reserved for memorial sponsors and VFW members, while the other 340 stamps are available for purchase as part of the ongoing VFW fundraiser efforts. The stamps come 20 to a sheet and can be obtained for a donation of $45 per sheet.

“We only have 17 sheets that will be available to the public and, when they’re gone, they’re gone. No more will be made,” VFW Quartermaster Vince Canosa noted.

The stamp depicts an image of the bronze bald eagle, which stands above the center pillar of the memorial and the American flag that flies behind it. The stamp also includes an inscription, “Lewiston VFW Circle of Honor,” along with the date, 2019.

Those interested in this special commemorative edition can contact Canosa at 716-343-4358 for more information or to purchase the stamps for their personal memorabilia collections.

“We appreciate the support, and all proceeds go directly to our memorial maintenance fund,” Canosa said.
