NYS OASAS announces opening of new addiction recovery center in Lockport

House of Hope Recovery Center in Lockport will offer free help and support to people & their families affected by addiction

The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) today announced the opening of the House of Hope recovery center in Lockport. The center is operated by Save the Michaels of the World and will provide free help and support services for people affected by addiction and their families. The center is being funded in part with $437,500 in federal funding through the State Opioid Response Grant, administered by OASAS.

“We are investing in recovery centers and treatment programs across the state as part of our aggressive efforts to combat the opioid epidemic,” said Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, co-chair of the New York State Heroin and Opioid Task Force, who made the announcement. “The opening of House of Hope in Lockport continues the great work of Save the Michaels of the World in Western New York, which is helping thousands of individuals and families struggling with addiction in the area. This new center will offer critical services for people during the recovery process and continues to build on our efforts to provide the care, resources and support needed to help save lives.”

“Recovery centers like this are critical in providing safe, substance-free environments for people in recovery from addiction,” OASAS Commissioner Arlene González-Sánchez said. “This new facility supports the governor’s efforts to establish nation-leading addiction services throughout the state and will give more people in Western New York the chance to receive the help that they need to build a healthy, productive life in recovery.”

Recovery centers are part of the governor's approach to addressing substance use disorders in New York. They promote long-term recovery by providing professional staff, peers and volunteers to engage and support people in their recovery. The House of Hope recovery center will offer numerous supports, including peer-to-peer recovery services, assistance on accessing and navigating the OASAS-certified substance use disorder treatment system, and skill building and recovery enhancement workshops. The center will also provide training on how to administer Naloxone to prevent overdose deaths.

It is located at 81 Walnut St., in the Heritage Square Plaza.

Since the outbreak of the opioid epidemic, New York has lost hundreds of individuals that have battled with addiction. However, thanks to the care and support of those like the Israel family and the foundation’s providers, the tide in this battle against addiction is turning. Lockport’s new ‘House of Hope’ is a welcome addition to our Niagara County community and I look forward to Save the Michaels of the World continuing its vital life-saving work.”
