Congressman Chris Collins recently announced $402,687.59 in federal funding for the Springwater Fire Co., Cambria Volunteer Fire Co., Terry’s Corners Fire Co. and the Swormville Fire Co. Each grant was allocated through the Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG), which is designed to help first-responders improve their capability to respond to fires and emergencies of all types.

“Oftentimes, volunteer fire departments in our local communities are faced with significant financial limitations that restrict their access to new equipment and training,” Collins said. “The AFG program allows our local fire departments and EMS organizations to apply for funding assistance in an effort to maintain safety standards for its first responders and allow them to keep our communities safe.

Springwater was allocated $85,714.28, while Cambria was presented $67,259.04, Terry’s Corner Fire Company received $45,571.42, and Swormville netted $204,142.85.

The grant program provides direct funding assistance to fire departments, state fire training academies and nonaffiliated EMS organizations to enhance their response capabilities to more effectively protect the health and safety of both the public and emergency response personnel, with respect to fire and other hazards.
