League of Women Voters event to feature James A. Gardner, UB professor and election law specialist

Early voting is just one significant election law change taking effect this year. The League of Women Voters of Buffalo/Niagara will present updates in a program titled “Countdown to Election Day: What you need to know before you vote.” The free program will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site, 641 Delaware Ave., Buffalo.

Light refreshments will be served.

The featured speaker will be James A. Gardner, SUNY Distinguished Professor at the University at Buffalo School of Law. According to Election Law Blog and Brian Leiter’s Law School Reports, Gardner is the country’s eighth-most-frequently cited expert in the field of election law. A prolific scholar and a top national authority on state constitutional law, he has published six books and more than 60 articles and book chapters. He holds a B.A. from Yale University and a J.D. from University of Chicago.

The program will also present an update on New York’s historic voting reforms, with these expert panelists: New York State Assemblyman Sean Ryan; Barbara Gunderson, voter service chair, League of Women Voters of Buffalo Niagara; and Jeremy Zellner, commissioner, Erie County Board of Elections.

This program is co-sponsored by the TR Site, which is reached via public transportation. Parking is free in the lot behind the building, accessible from Delaware Avenue or Franklin Street, between Allen and North streets.

The program is free and open to the public, but reservations are requested. RSVP to [email protected], call 716-986-4898, or visit www.lwvbn.org
