Clyde Burmaster wake is Thursday

Clyde L. Burmaster, 78, of Ransomville, passed peacefully on Monday, Aug. 26, 2019, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Burmaster spent his entire life in Ransomville. He was the son of the late Dietrich and Irene.

At the time of his passing, Burmaster was honorably serving as vice chairman of the Niagara County Legislature. He represented District 1. During his 28 years as legislator, Burmaster often served in the role of chairman or vice chairman.

Throughout his political career, Burmaster worked tirelessly on countless projects to improve his community, lower taxes, and always do the right thing with integrity. Prior to his political career, Burmaster worked as a private investigator for 32 years, and retired as the director of investigations for a large international firm.

The Niagara County Public Information Office stated, “Vice Chairman Burmaster, R-Ransomville, was a highly valued and respected member of the Niagara County Legislature since 1994 and will be sorely missed.”

Niagara County Legislature Chairman Keith McNall expressed sympathy and praise for his long-time colleague and friend.

“Clyde was a highly respected county legislator who was measured by his use of common sense and fair play, and always put the interests of the people he represented first,” McNall said. “My colleagues and I offer our deepest condolences to Clyde’s family and friends.”

He also served this country during the Vietnam era as a sergeant in the US Army Infantry.

Burmaster was very active in his community. He was both a friend and mentor to many people. What he loved most was helping other people, many of whom he never even met.

Burmaster was past president of the Niagara Tobacco Asset Corp., past president of the Niagara Community Action Program, past president of the Ransomville Free Library board, past president of the North Ridge Cemetery Association, and past president of the Ransomville Volunteer Fire Co. He was a member of the O. Leo Curtis Post 830 American Legion and the Old Fort Niagara Association.

In addition, Burmaster was on the board of directors for the Festival of Lights and was also a board chairman for the Ransomville Methodist Church. He enjoyed vacationing with his wife and spending quality time with his family. He cherished his close relationship with his son, Chris, and enjoy traveling to Florida to spend time with him. Burmaster was an avid golfer, and always had a love for sports cars. He also enjoyed collecting Civil War memorabilia.

Clyde is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne. They cherished 33 years of marriage and had a combined family of six children: Chris Burmaster, Justin Gamble, Shane Gamble, Michelle Gamble, Robin Jenneveve, and the late Daniel Burmaster. They also had eight grandchildren. He had two brothers, John Burmaster and the late Donald Burmaster.

Family and friends may call on from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Hardison Funeral Home, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Matthew Worley officiating. Burial in North Ridge Cemetery will follow with military honors.
