Grand Island Board of Education: Meeting set to fill principal vacancy

Sat, Aug 3rd 2019 07:00 am

The Grand Island Board of Education will meet Aug. 7 to consider filling the vacant principal position at Huth Road Elementary School.

After the sudden resignation of Dr. Ami Alderman in July, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian Graham asked the board during its monthly meeting Monday to move to fill the post, the sooner the better.

The board was told the district had 27 applicants for the vacant post, and the search process was going so far, so good, Graham said.

A subcommittee invited 13 prospects, seven of whom accepted screening interviews. Five advanced to building-level committee interviews set for July 31.

Board President Ashli Dreher said parent emails to the board expressed concerns at Huth about a smooth transition for their children. Trustee Nicole Novak said some of the parents at Huth are concerned because the new principal will be the third in just the last few years.

The board members looked at their calendars and decided to hold a special board meeting, should the final candidate be identified, at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7. A regular meeting would follow an executive session.
