Lions seek entries for International Peace Poster contest

The Lewiston Community Lions are sponsoring the Lions International Peace Poster contest through the Town of Lewiston Recreation Department. Students ages 11, 12 or 13 (as of Nov. 15) are eligible to participate in the contest.

Parents: If your child is interested in participating in creating a poster, and submitting their vision of peace artwork, contact the Town of Lewiston Recreational Department at 716-754-8213, ext. 237. Winner will receive a $100 cash prize, courtesy of the Lewiston Community Lions. The winning poster will be sent to compete with the other winning posters from Lions clubs in Niagara, Erie, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties. The district level winning poster will move on to the state competition, then nationally and internationally, until ultimately one poster is chosen.

Visually impaired young people also have the opportunity to share their expressions of peace through the Lions International essay contest. Each year, students ages 11-13 enter short essays on the same theme as the peace poster program for a chance to win a cash prize.

This contest is open to any student resident of the Lewiston-Porter Central School District (one entry per student). Organizations looking to participate in the Peace Poster contest should contact District Gov.-Elect Regina Cecconi at [email protected].

For over three decades, Lions around the globe have sponsored this art contest in schools and youth groups. The organization stated, “creating peace posters gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity.”
