Sanborn's Myers running for Lewiston Town Council

Jason Myers recently announced his candidacy for a seat on the Lewiston Town Council.

Myers, a resident of Sanborn, has a background in management, finance and marketing. He currently serves as a member of the Niagara-Wheatfield School Board, where he is on the audit and policy committees, helping to bring oversight to the district and its $70 million-plus annual budget.

“I hope to bring fresh eyes to the Lewiston Town Council and to look out for its people,” Myers said. “I want to see that taxes are well-managed and used efficiently and resourcefully, that our infrastructure is well maintained, and that services are provided with excellence.”

Myers said he also wants to see sensible development. He added he believes the town should grow in a way that respects both the needs of its residents and current businesses, and benefits the community.

“The Town of Lewiston is a great, safe place with great people – that is an asset!” Myers remarked.

Myers is an honors graduate of Niagara-Wheatfield High School and was class salutatorian. He earned a full-tuition academic scholarship to Niagara University, where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree, dual majoring in business management, and economics and finance. Myers earned a 4.0 grade-point average and, as a senior, was awarded the Outstanding Business Student of the Year. He went on to receive a master’s degree in biblical studies from Liberty University.

For nearly the past decade, Myers has done work with the Niagara Gospel Rescue Mission, a faith-based nonprofit organization in Niagara Falls. The Niagara Gospel Rescue Mission is a key organization in helping many of Niagara County’s most needy with services, including an emergency shelter for men, community meals, low-income transitional housing, life-recovery programs, support groups, and skills training.

Myers began with the agency shortly after its inception, serving as a board member, board president, and then as operations director. During his time as board president, Niagara Gospel Rescue Mission acquired the former 60,000-square-foot Niagara Falls YMCA building on Portage Road and expanded services.

For Myers, his Christian faith is an important aspect of his service. He is an active member of Forestview Church of God, where he has served as a worship leader, youth leader, and Sunday school teacher.

“My beliefs lead me to care about my community and drive me towards service. I would be honored to be able to serve the people of the town as their councilman,” Myers said.

Myers has won the endorsement of the Republican, Conservative and Independence parties. He noted, “I am looking forward to further strengthening the current core leadership, including Supervisor Broderick, Councilman Geiben, and Councilman Bax, to continue bringing common-sense decisions that benefit the people of the town.”
