Jason Myers to seek open council seat

Lewiston Town Supervisor Steve Broderick and Councilman William E. Geiben have announced they will be seeking re-election this fall.

Broderick and Geiben were elected four years ago at the time when the town was in financial stress. With Broderick’s leadership and Geiben’s experience the Town Board was able to reach a consensus and “right the (financial) ship.” The Town’s Moody bond rating improved from a negative outlook to a neutral outlook and the State Comptroller’s Fiscal Stress Level was reversed to indicate that Lewiston went from the most fiscally stressed town in Niagara County to the least, showing no fiscal stress. All this was achieved through tough, honest decision-making.

During the past four years the Town Board unanimously supported budgets that increased fund balances in all accounts to a level more closely recommended by the New York State Comptroller. The board was able to make the hard decisions such as approving the town’s necessary water improvement project. In addition the Town Board actively secured grants, which in turn enabled the sewer lines on Saunders Settlement Road to be extended to service the Sanborn Farm Museum and neighboring homes and businesses. The board authorized new LED lighting in all town buildings, reducing the carbon footprint and saving town taxpayers approximately $23,000 per year. Additionally, two hybrid automobiles and an electric charging station were secured.

The Town Board budgeted funds for essential equipment for the Wastewater Pollution Control Center and new vehicles for the highway, water, recreation and police departments. Also, the Town Board paid off a highway bond early, saving taxpayers over $180,000. The Town Board also has been committed to supporting department heads with funds to continue providing Lewiston residents with the services that are expected and appreciated.

Prior to Broderick and Geiben’s terms, the Town Board, the Cable Commission and the Time Warner Cable company reached an agreement where Town Board meetings could be recorded, televised on Lockport Cable TV and linked to the town website (www.townoflewiston.us) and YouTube. After lengthy negotiations, NCCC will work cooperatively with the town to facilitate the program, enabling Lewiston residents to view the meetings at their leisure. This program will help Lewiston residents to be more informed of the public policy actions and decisions of the Town Board.

During the past four years, the Town Board has supported Greenway funds for various projects that will enhance the Lewiston community. Projects include the Sanborn Main Street Sign, Sanborn Farm Museum parking lot, Lower Niagara River Road Comfort Station, Artpark Interactive Children and Family program, Stella Niagara Preserve, Discover Niagara Shuttle, Morgan Lewis Bust, Lewiston Town Park, Marilyn Toohey All Inclusive Park, and Lewiston Circle of Honor Veterans Memorial.

Broderick is a retired lieutenant with the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office. He is a member and past president of the Mount St. Mary’s Board of Associates and a member of St. Peter’s R.C. Church. He is married to the former Sheila Leonida and they have three children. His son David is currently serving in the United States Army; his daughter Leysa attends Syracuse University and his daughter Ashley attends North Carolina State University.

Broderick can be reached via email at [email protected].

Geiben is a former village trustee and mayor, and a Lewiston town councilman and deputy supervisor. He previously was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Lewiston, board member of the Niagara Falls Chapter of the Red Cross, Niagara Falls Little Theater and the Lewiston-Porter Community Ambassador Program. As a teacher, he was a member of the Lewiston-Porter United Teachers. He is currently a life member of the Friends of the Lewiston Library and Historic Association of Lewiston, a member of St. Peter’s R.C. Church and Holy Name Society and a member of the Lewiston Senior’s club.

Bill is married to Rita Donovan and they have four grown children and five grandchildren.

Geiben can be reached via email at [email protected].

Supervisor Broderick and Councilman Geiben welcome Jason Myers to the campaign. Myers will be running for one of the two available council seats. Myers is an E-commerce businessman and currently a member of the Niagara-Wheatfield Board of Education. He is a lifelong resident of Sanborn.

Myers can be reached via email at [email protected].
