The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will kick-off at noon on Tuesday, June 11. A group will run from The Kiernan Center at Niagara University to the Red Brick Municipal Building in the Village of Lewiston.

During the run, participants have the opportunity to not only run with some Special Olympics athletes, but they can also hold the Flame of Hope.

This is a teamwork event and group effort. Everyone will start and finish together. In past years, a slower-style run has been the pace for people to enjoy – and some have even started calling out cadences.

After the event, participants and Special Olympics athletes will enjoy some comradery at the Lewiston Stone House, where they can enjoy food and drinks, plus pizza donated from Favorites Pizzeria.

Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. The use of bicycles is permitted, but riders need proper safety gear. Shirts can be bought that day, before the event, or at the Stone House after the event. For those who don’t want to run or bike, but would like to donate and show support, they can stop by the Stone House to make a donation and/or buy shirts, hats or challenge coins, and also take a picture holding the torch.

Lewiston Police Department officer Brandon Hall said, “This event is a lot of fun and for a great cause; we hope to see you there.”
