District budget passes; Lew-Port plans ahead

Thank you to all who voted in the Lewiston-Porter Board of Education election and budget vote. Anne Orr, Betty Warrick and I were each elected to three-year terms on the Board of Education and the budget passed with a decisive margin – 480-150.

The overwhelming support for the budget speaks to the strong commitment to education of our community, and that the community supports the direction this district is headed, as the budget supports Lew-Port’s four-year Strategic Plan. With the budget approved, the district now moves forward with implementing the many elements of the plan to advance education K-12 in Lewiston-Porter. 

On behalf of Anne and Betty, thank you for your support. We look forward to continuing the good work of the Lewiston-Porter Board of Education. The BOE will meet on Tuesday for our monthly meeting, at 6 p.m. in the boardroom at the Community Resource Center. Hope you can join us.

Spring Concerts

√ On Tuesday, May 28 Lew-Port third-graders are invited to Instrumental Parent Night, at 6:30 p.m. in the IEC gym. Music teacher Falynn Spinnegan describes it as a musical “petting zoo” – an opportunity for students to see, touch and try out all of the instruments available to them next year. Instruments are each demonstrated to the kids during the school day, but the evening “petting zoo” gives students the chance to actually try them before they make a decision. The instrumental program will be presented for the parents and students are free to try instruments out. Students will then go to the “chromebook station” and fill out their three choices. 

√ Wednesday, May 29 – High school instrumental concert, 7 p.m. in the high school. 

√ Thursday, May 30 – Middle school (grades 7-8) ensembles, 7 p.m. in the high school.

√ Tuesday, June 4 – High school choral concert, 7 p.m. in the high school.

√ Wednesday, June 5 – Elementary (grades 3-6) outdoor concert, 6 p.m. in the PEC/IEC bus loop

The evening begins with food trucks at 5:30 p.m. Expected are The Dirty Bird, Pizza Amore, J &L Boulevard BBQ, J&L Salad Bar Truck, Sassi Cake Cupcakes and Kona Shave Ice. The PTSA is also holding a BOGO Book Fair inside the IEC the night of the concert and the class of 2020 will be selling drinks as well.

√ Tuesday, May 28 – Board of Education meeting, 6 p.m. at the CRC; Instrumental Parent Night, 6:30 p.m. in the IEC. 

√ Wednesday, May 29 – Parent Volunteer Breakfast, at 9:15 a.m. the PEC; High school instrumental concert, 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium; 8th Grade Honors Project Student Showcase, 5-7 p.m. at Niagara University.

√ Friday, May 31 – National Honor Society annual picnic.
