N-WCSD budget approved; new board members elected

On Tuesday, voters in the Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District approved the $74,400,000 budget by a 692-219 vote. 

The New York State School Board Association reported that voters approved 98.4% of budgets in the state.

“Yesterday, communities across the state reaffirmed their support for public education by approving the vast majority of school district budgets,” said NYSSBA Executive Director Timothy G. Kremer. “This is not surprising, given that school boards proposed budgets that largely updated and strengthened educational programming, all while proposing very modest tax levy increases.”

The N-W budget is a 1.71% change in tax levy, compared to last year’s 2.49% change. A 1.71% tax increase is equal to $563,953 in revenue. 

In addition, Julia Fago (729 votes) and Robert McDermott (726) were elected to the district’s School Board. 

Voters also approved three propositions – an authorization to expend from the capital transportation reserve; a bond proposition for the capital project; and an authorization to establish a 2019 general capital reserve fund.
