The Nancy Price Memorial 5K race had 68 runners signed up, along with a large number of folks who walked the course and 10 kids who ran in the half-mile “fun run.”

The male winner in the 5K was Matt Melnik from Vancouver with a time of 17.33. The female winner was Jennifer Liaros, from Lancaster, with a time of 21.17. Ella Squire won the “fun run” with a time of 3.09.

Following the race, all the contestants gathered in the Youngstown Firehall for snacks and an awards ceremony.

The race route took runners through the village and along the river walking path at Fort Niagara State Park, ultimately ending back at the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Department.

The 5K has been taking place in Youngstown since 1993. It was originally known as the “River Run.” In 1995, the race and a local scholarship were dedicated to the memory of Nancy Price, a beloved, 20-year Youngstown Recreation director, who died after a long battle with cancer.

The race proceeds are contributed to the Nancy Price Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to one or more deserving students from the Lewiston-Porter School District who have participated in Youngstown recreation activities, excelled in their academic programs, and contributed to the Youngstown community.
