Kinney seeks reelection

Sat, Apr 20th 2019 06:55 am

Longtime Grand Island resident Beverly A. Kinney announced her candidacy for reelection to the Grand Island Town Council.

Kinney is endorsed by the Democrat Party and Working Families Party. She also is qualified to be on the Independence Party line for the primary Tuesday, June 25. She will be the only registered Independence Party member on the ballot.

When elected to the Town Council in 2016, Kinney retired as an independent businesswoman to bring her experience and full-time attention to the position. She personifies the cornerstones of a good work ethic; namely, hard work and dependability. She has an exemplary record on making informed, objective decisions. Often called a “Voice of Reason,” Kinney strives to maintain the proper decorum essential to a functioning and productive board.

Spending time at the initial stage of a project or a plan for the town is a prerequisite to achieve a viable long-term solution. Kinney does her homework. She has contributed in the formation of every Master Plan since 1995, including the recently adopted 2018 Master Plan. She now works in the development of the Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan and the Farmland Protection Plan.

Kinney cares deeply about the environment, focusing on the values of conservation and sustainability yet striving to encourage positive economic growth. She initiated programs that earned Grand Island the designation from NYSERDA as a “Clean Energy Community,” bringing in $12,000 in grant money. Another one of the program’s initiatives is a town-wide LED conversion project currently being worked on, she co-authored the town solar law and is now developing a Dark Sky policy. As past Grand Island Chamber president and liaison to Parks and Recreation and Economic Development Advisory boards she understands the need for balance.

As liaison to the Golden Age Center, Kinney has taken a special interest in helping the center to be the best it can be. She realizes the center is a vital part of our community and a much-needed service for our seniors. She was influential in the rehabilitation plan of the Nike Base Community Center. Kinney is eager to utilize the revitalized Center for more youth-oriented programs as well.

Over the next few months, Kinney will be walking door–to-door. Grand Island residents will have the opportunity to meet Kinney and discover her vision for Grand Island.
