Historical Society of the Tonawanda offers program on Nikola Tesla

The Historical Society of the Tonawandas has announced its April program – Nikola Tesla: The Man, The Inventor.  

Dr. Francis Lestingi, professor emeritus history of science and physics at SUNY Buffalo State College, will present an illustrated projection on Nikola Tesla. Attendees will find out how and when Tesla electrified the nation by using hydroelectric power from Niagara Falls. 

Paul Swisher, a retired teacher from North Tonawanda and director of education for the Buffalo-Niagara Tesla Council, will talk about the unveiling of the Tesla statue in September for the inventor’s 163rd birthday. 

Tesla was an immigrant who spoke eight languages, produced the first motor that ran on AC current and invented many technologies that affect one’s life today. His life is a story of invention and technology.

The program will take place in the North Tonawanda City Hall Council Chambers, 216 Payne Ave., on at 7 p.m.  April 10. The public is invited. 

North Tonawanda City Hall is handicapped accessible at the back of the Building. The door faces the NT Police Department and an elevator brings one to the door of the council chambers.
