Community of Christ Holy Week activities announced

Community of Christ, Niagara Falls – Lewiston Congregation has announced 2019 Holy Week activities at the church on 5235 Lewiston Road. Events begin this year at Community of Christ with Palm Sunday celebration on April 14 and conclude with Easter Worship on Sunday, April 21.

“I am pleased to invite all to come and worship in this week that has so much meaning for Christians and seekers alike,” said the Rev. Glenn Johnson of Lewiston. “As a welcoming and inclusive community we especially uphold the worth of all persons and extend hospitality knowing that each person is of inestimable worth in the eyes of the divine creator.”

The Holy Week activities scheduled are as follows:

•Palm Sunday, April 14, 11 a.m.: Theme: “Joyfully Praise God.” Worship celebration based on the story of Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem as told in Luke 19:28-40. Palm Sunday community lunch at noon. All are welcome; there is no charge.

•Holy Thursday, April 18, 6 p.m.: Theme: “A New Commandment.” Join in for a light meal remembering the Passover celebration observed by Jesus in the upper room. Simple hymns and readings, including John 13:1-17, 31b-35.

•Good Friday, April 19, 6 p.m.: Theme: “Passion of the Redeemer.” Good Friday is good news for those who experience suffering, for those who are oppressed. Join in for a candlelight tenebrae service. Witness a 20-foot high chapel cross as the light goes out. Reading: John 18:1-19:42.

•Easter Sunday, April 21: Breakfast and Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m., Community of Christ. Worship at 11 a.m. Theme: “I Have Seen the Lord.” Join in glad celebration of Easter during this worship hour of joyful praise and contemplation on John 20:1-18 and Luke 24:1-12.

Community of Christ is a worldwide church with 250,000 members in 60 nations. Community of Christ Niagara Falls – Lewiston congregation was established locally in Niagara Falls in 1906 and moved to its current location in Lewiston in 1970. Community of Christ is located on Route 104 above the escarpment.
