The Buffalo Launch Club announces two upcoming programs of interest to boaters:

•On Saturday, April 6, BLC will host a boater’s seminar and luncheon featuring speakers from U.S. and Canadian maritime law enforcement agencies. The event is open to the public. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with the program starting at 10 a.m. and continuing to noon. A buffet lunch will be served.

Cost is $20 per person and includes tax and service charge.

•On Saturday, April 13, the BLC will host a New York state safe boating class.

According to newly adopted New York state law, all jet-ski operators and individuals born after 1996 must successfully complete this course to operate a boat in New York waters. Topics include boats and motors; boating safety equipment; navigation; rules of the road; personal watercraft; registration procedures with New York state; and boating emergencies.

Boaters must be 10 years old or older by April 13 to participate. There is no cost for students ages 10-17. A $10 fee will be paid to New York state for those students ages 18 and over who successfully complete the course.

All students must complete the entire eight-hour program in order to receive their state certificate.

The BLC is located at 503 E. River Road, Grand Island. For more information, or to make a reservation, call 716-773-7629.
