NASA's Bowman presents at NAM

Thu, Mar 28th 2019 01:25 pm

At the Niagara Aerospace Museum last Wednesday, Alice Bowman, was welcomed on behalf of the Town of Wheatfield by Town Historian and NAM member Justin Higner. Bowman is from NASA and is head of the engineering and mission operations of the New Horizons mission.

Over the past decade, this craft visited Pluto and its moons, along with an equally informative visit to Ultima Thule (a binary planetoid).

Bowman is the “mom” of the now 4-billion-plus mile mission and both rich places have radically altered the understanding of planetary sciences.

She learned that much of what is done and equipped in space today was influenced by the legacy of the Bell Aircraft-Aerospace Corp. in Wheatfield.

Additionally, the presentation was well attended.

This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo II Lunar mission.

The Niagara Aerospace Museum and library is located at 9990 Porter Road (the old Niagara Falls Airport terminal) and is open from 4-8 p.m. Wednesdays, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. Call 297-1323, or visit on Facebook and at www.wnyaerospace.org for more information.
