It has been 100 years since Zonta International was founded in Buffalo, and the Grand Island club is celebrating the centennial in style with its annual Fashion Show & Luncheon.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m., with luncheon at 12:30 p.m., on Sunday, April 28, at the Buffalo Launch Club, 503 East River Road. Fashions are by Dressbarn at Fashion Outlets Niagara Falls USA. Models are Zonta members, family and friends.

The club will showcase the Zonta District 4 Centennial Flag in a special presentation honoring the international women’s service and advocacy organization.

A major raffle will feature prize drawings for a $150 NOCO gas card and for a money tree. There also will be a large theme basket raffle and gift certificates for goods and services donated by area businesses.

Tickets for the fashion show are $35 and can be purchased by calling Donna at 716-773-2535, emailing [email protected] or contacting any member of the Zonta Club of Grand Island

The fashion show is the major fundraiser for Zonta, which will be awarding scholarships this June to Grand Island women. Since its founding in 1958, the local club has awarded more than $126,000 in scholarships to Grand Island women. The club also provides financial assistance to many charitable organizations and is committed to the fight against domestic violence.

Zonta International is a worldwide organization that has empowered women and girls through service and advocacy for a century. It was founded in 1919 in Buffalo by a group of forward-thinking women who were not satisfied with the predominantly social nature of many women’s organizations. Instead, Zonta’s founders established a women’s service organization to advocate for laws and policies that ensure gender equality and help every woman and girl realize her full potential.
