2nd ward alderwoman wants to continue bringing results and excitement to Lumber City

Donna Braun, alderwoman in the 2nd Ward for the City of North Tonawanda, officially kicked off her re-election campaign with an announcement to supporters citing her accomplishments while raising the bar for what’s coming next.

Braun recounted her desire to seek public office so the community could have someone who is accountable and would help revitalize a stagnant downtown. She said that passion still holds true today.

“In just a few short years we have brought Webster Street to full occupancy and we are working on bringing that same success to Oliver Street,” said Braun. “Community development is the heart and soul of any city. Many projects have come to life and I am proud to be a part of the process.”

Braun added that it’s not difficult to notice a booming North Tonawanda and one can look at the lively downtown any weekend, to see cars parked along the strip. This was not the case 10 years ago, as the city had a parking problem then, with no cars parked downtown. She said the problem now is the opposite, most nights parking is full along Webster Street.

Braun praised the cooperation between Lumber City Development and the North Tonawanda Common Council as proof that collaboration can bring immediate results. Braun is a board member of Lumber City, which focuses on jump starting economic development.

Braun said she understood that results are more than just buildings. Activism in the community is an essential part to move North Tonawanda forward. Braun said she participates and respects the efforts of the Grass Roots groups in the city, NT Neighborhood Watch, Oliver Street Merchants, Downtown Merchants and Project Pride.

“We have an energetic community with a large support base,” said Braun. “The sense of pride flows throughout our neighborhoods. I love being a part of the change that helps raise the bar.”

Braun currently sits on many steering committees such as the $2.5 million dollar Smart Growth grant, NT MomeNTum, Oliver Street Needs Assessment, Art on Oliver and, most recently, the KaBoom Grant steering committee.

The alderwoman said she still believes there is plenty of work left to do. Her projects, like placing lights at Heritage Park, ensuring the success of the Community Gardens and the newly established land bank, helps push her to do more.

“As a council member I work hard to bring new businesses to the city, revitalize neighborhoods, and address any concerns a resident may have,” said Braun. “I take pride in taking care of the residents, because their concerns are my concerns.”

Donna is a 29-year North Tonawanda resident, where she and her husband Ken raised their three children.

Braun has been endorsed by Republican, Independence and Conservative parties for the November election.
