David P. Burmaster of Ransomville has announced his candidacy for the office of highway superintendent in the Town of Porter.

Burmaster is a lifelong resident and attended local schools until his graduation from Wilson Central High School in 1977. Following graduation, he worked at Stephenson Hardware for one year. Burmaster joined the Town of Porter Highway Department under Superintendent Charles Denny on Oct. 2, 1978. He worked 18 years in the Highway Department, operating every piece of equipment and was promoted to deputy water and sewer superintendent, a position he held for 22 years.

He is married to Billie J. Vought; they are parents of children Shawn, David and Brandy and have 10 grandchildren.

Burmaster is a 40-year member of the Ransomville Volunteer Fire Co., where serves as an exempt fireman. He has also been a member of 3F Club for years and volunteers for numerous town activities. His family are members of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Ransomville.

In his spare time, he enjoys camping with his family and travelling with his wife.

Burmaster spoke of his family’s lineage in the town and his dedication to serve Porter residents.

“I come from a family of long standing community leaders, dating back to the 1800s when my great grandfather, John Burmaster, was a town justice as was my grandfather, Dedrich Burmaster. My Uncle John Burmaster served many years as the supervisor of the Town of Porter, and my Uncle Clyde Burmaster is the vice chairman and three-time chairman of the Niagara County Legislature for the past 25 years,” he said. “My father, Donald Burmaster, worked for the Town Highway Department from 1958, when he was elected town highway superintendent, until he retired in 1996.”

“I truly love this wonderful community and can think of no nicer place to live and raise a family,” Burmaster said. “That is why I have chosen to run for the position of town highway superintendent and to provide the best possible services for our residents, following in the footsteps of my father.

“I respectfully ask for your vote and support to make our town a leader in Niagara County.”
