N-WHS hosting Pink Out Day

Thu, Feb 14th 2019 03:50 pm

On Friday, Feb. 15, Niagara-Wheatfield High School, 2292 Saunders Settlement, will once again do its due diligence for those in need in the community.

The school will host a Pink Out Day to help raise funds and awareness about cancer and support cancer research.

Students, parents and faculty are encouraged to wear pink or white, and those interested in supporting can donate $1 or more to the table in front of the main office prior to homeroom. All proceeds will go towards cancer research.

Additionally, the school will sell breast cancer and pink merchandise to raise more funds.

This is not the first time N-WHS has done generous work to show its awareness for cancer.

To start the new year, the boys basketball team hosted its own pink out game to help support the family of Julie Neville from Grand Island, who passed away after a battle with breast cancer. The effort accumulated thousands of dollars for the Neville Boys Education Fund.

Additionally, in early 2018, the basketball team hosted another pink out game to support a friend and teacher close to their heart: Krista Miller. Students, faculty and community members filled the gym wearing nothing but pink attire to show their support for Miller, who was battling with breast cancer.

The school has also hosted canned food drives to help support those in need and many other supportive endeavors to help those in the community.

Those looking to help the cause can visit the school or call N-WHS at 215-3100.
