EPIC – Every Person Influences Children – received $5,000 from the Rite Aid Foundation KidCents program.

This is the second year EPIC has been approved as a KidCents charity. Funding from this program comes for the generosity of the community in which customers of Rite Aid round up their purchases to the nearest dollar and donate their change to a general fund that supports kid-focused charities. Additionally, those customers with a wellness+ rewards can go online to www.KidCents.com and elect to automatically round up all their purchases and donate the change to KidCents every time they shop at Rite Aid. They can even select a specific KidCents participating charity for the money to go to, such as EPIC.

The money received will support the various free, year-round parenting programs EPIC offers throughout the community, including:

•Ready, Set, Read!, a fun and interactive series that supports literacy by giving parents practical guidance and building their confidence as parents, teachers and advocates for their children. Additionally, parents who want to improve their own literacy are also connected through “Ready, Set, Read!” to community partners who can help them develop their skills.

•Incredible Years, An eight-week evidence-based parenting workshop series designed for parents to learn skills and strategies on how to enhance their baby's social, emotional and language development.

•Families in Transition, a parenting series helping individuals who are facing challenges reach their full potential as parents.

About EPIC

EPIC was founded out of a tragedy experienced by founder Robert Wilson. In 1977, his wife was murdered by a 15-year-old neighbor, a child they had befriended. Investigation of the child's life indicated he had been abused, neglected, and placed in 11 different foster homes. While it was too late to change what had happened to his wife, Wilson felt it was not too late for others. In 1980, he established EPIC, with a vision of preventing tragedies like his. EPIC's programs have now been replicated in hundreds of locations throughout New York and in 16 other states. EPIC workshops and trainings carry out Wilson's legacy by helping families, schools and communities raise children to become responsible and successful adults.

EPIC provides research-based and evidence-informed year-round programming in parenting education and support, which includes “Ready, Set, Parent!” plus parenting classes for parents of young children, and young adolescents, “Families in Transition,” “Just for Teens,” “Ready, Set, Read!” and storytime.
