Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper opens enrollment for spring 2019 water academy course

Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper has opened enrollment for the spring 2019 water academy course, running Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30pm, Jan. 26 through May 18.

Adults looking to connect to their local waterways and learn more about current environmental problems and solutions in the region will find what they are looking for in this place-based environmental education course. This program offers an extensive range of learning opportunities through unique partnerships with local organizations such as the Nature Sanctuary Society of Western New York and North Tonawanda Botanical Garden Organization. Classes will meet at field locations throughout Western New York and include hands-on service projects and exploration of restoration work in progress.

Topics this semester include saving land through civic action, urban habitat adventure-Buffalo River corridor, saving unique habitats – headwaters, and a Scajaquada Creek snowshoe tour. Guest lecturers may include representatives from governmental agencies, community organizations and the private sector.

College students are also eligible to enroll and can receive credit for this course.
