Starpoint Regan Intermediate School makes holidays bright for local families

Thu, Dec 27th 2018 01:55 pm

Anyone would agree that no child should go without at the holidays. The children at Starpoint’s Regan Intermediate School pitched in to make sure that didn’t happen for some local residents. The teachers felt it was an important lesson for the students to learn that the holidays should be focused on giving rather than receiving.  The students and their families opened up their hearts and the wallets to make the holiday season special for many less fortunate families.

The students in the classes of Mr. Mills, Ms. Decker, Mrs. Strangio and Mrs. Ott started bringing in contributions for the Marine Toys for Tots in the beginning of December.  The program is a great way to support all the local less fortunate children to share in the magic of the holidays.

Mr. Dewey’s, Miss Sansone’s and Mrs. Hayes’ classes have adopted families for the holidays in lieu of the traditional gift exchange for the teachers and students.

Mrs. Mertz’s, Mrs. Sullivan’s and Mrs. Moran’s classes, with the help of student teacher Jessica Pulaski, held a toy drive for children at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Mrs. Ranney’s and Mrs. Schopf’s classes were inspired by the book “Home of the Brave,” which tells the story of a 10-year-old refugee from the Sudan who struggles to begin a new life in the United States. Their students donated personal hygiene and cleaning supplies to Journey’s End, a refugee resettlement center that helps refugees in the Buffalo region to begin a new life in the United States.

Principal Monica Daigler says it really is what the season is all about.  “It is so heart-warming to see so many students and staff giving to others this holiday season.”
