Teals Niagara Theatre will present “Willy Wonka, Jr.” Dec. 14-16 at The Niagara Arts and Cultural Center, 1201 Pine Ave. Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the world-famous candy man comes to life in this stage adaptation of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” featuring songs from the classic family film “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”

“Willy Wonka, Jr.” is directed and choreographed by Jill Anderson of Grand Island with musical direction by Amy Teal of Lewiston. It features a cast of 35 students between the ages of 7 and 18 from throughout WNY.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at The NACC. All tickets are $10 pre-sale or $12 at the door. They can be purchased at The NACC or online at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3913080

The show follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka (Sam Tocke of Lewiston) as he stages a contest by hiding five golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whoever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats (Violet Beauregarde, played by Brynn Townsend of Youngstown; Veruca Salt; played by Beth Teal of Lewiston; Mike Teavee played by Michael Giannini of Lewiston; and Agustus Gloop played by David Day of Pendleton): the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket (Alyssa Stockinger of Grand Island). He takes the tour with his grandfather, played by Jaden Lombardo of Lewiston. The children must learn to follow Wonka’s rules in the factory, or suffer dire consequences.

“From an audience member’s perspective, it’s really powerful for a child to see an entire cast made up of children,” said Teal, program director at TNT. “And from a student’s perspective, they learn first-hand about the fun and the hard work involved in being in a musical theater cast.”
