WNY companies to create structures made entirely from canned goods to benefit Food Bank of WNY

Seven Western New York companies will compete to build structures ("Canstructions") made entirely out of canned goods. Each nonperishable used will benefit the Food Bank of Western New York.
The 2018 "Design & Build 'Canstruction' competition takes place from Friday, Dec. 7, until 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, with completed creations on public viewing until Dec. 23. Employees from Praxair, Ferguson Electric, Hamburg Gaming, Wendel, Hale Expo Services, Trautman Associates and National Fuel are schedule to participate in the competition at the Fairgrounds Festival of Lights, Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg.
Teams will have a total of 12 hours to build displays, including during the festival hours: 5-9 p.m. Dec. 7-9. Patrons will be able to choose their favorite "Canstruction" from Dec. 14-23. Judging by a selected panel will take place on Dec. 13. Categories will include, "Best Original Design," "Structural Ingenuity," "Best Use Of Labels," "Best Meal," "People's Choice" and "Most Cans Used."
This year marks the 14th year for what has become a time-honored holiday tradition in Western New York. The Fairgrounds Festival of Lights at the Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg runs every weekend through Dec. 16, with an expanded schedule Dec. 19-23. Admission to the Fairgrounds Festival of Lights is $25 per carload at the gate. The Fairgrounds Festival of Lights is sponsored by the Erie County Agricultural Society (ECAS).
