As a mother and a grandmother, I understand how important it is for children to enjoy the freedom, adventure and social interaction that takes place every day on America's playgrounds - but many of our youngest residents are being left behind.
We're working to change that. On the grounds of the municipal building located at 145 N. Fourth St. - affectionately known as Marilyn Toohey Park - we have identified an opportunity to design something very special that will benefit our children for many years to come.
We pledge to build a playground that is suited to children of all ages and abilities. This thoughtfully designed playground will be enjoyable for everyone, regardless of age or level of ability, and it will take into account the diverse needs of all of our young residents.
We invite you to join us as we bring together the children of our community on a safe, all-inclusive playing field. The park will be thoughtfully designed and will include traditional playground elements such as slides, swings, and a merry-go-round, but they will be wheelchair-accessible and will feature unique audio/visual elements.
With guidance and assistance from Mason's Mission, and help from your elected officials, local clubs and compassionate donors, we can realize this dream and give this lasting gift to the children of our community. The outpouring of support we have already received is validation that there are many children in our community who would experience increased quality of life, benefitting greatly from this wonderful new park.
It is my hope that you will consider lending your support and join us in investing in our children and our community.
Together we can make a difference and ensure that, in Lewiston, every child is welcomed, valued and thought of.
