The Historical Association of Lewiston has announced the formation of a Bicentennial Committee for the Village and Town of Lewiston to commemorate 200 years. The committee has been recognized by both municipal boards, and is tasked with the planning of events and hosting celebrations.
The Village of Lewiston was incorporated in 1822, with the Town of Lewiston following suit in 1823. HAL Vice President Leandra Collesano said, "Our vision is to plan a yearlong celebration that recognizes both the village and town's 200th birthdays."
The officers of the bicentennial committee are: Chairperson Collesano, Vice Chairperson Ken Slaugenhoupt, Secretary Donna Garfinkel and Treasurer Marjorie Maggard.
The committee has been formed with members from key Lewiston civic and business organizations, including the government boards, the Tuscarora Nation, the village and town historical preservation committees, HAL, the Sanborn Historical Society, the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce, the Lewiston Public Library, the Lewiston Council on the Arts, Niagara University, and the village and town historians.
"We welcome any businesses and individuals who would like to participate in one of our many subcommittees to reach out and volunteer. Our bicentennial celebrations will begin in the year 2022," Collesano said.
