It's that "spooktacular" time again. With Halloween a little less than two weeks away, the Town of Wheatfield Recreation Department is gearing up with a celebration that children and families will not want to miss.
Come Saturday, Oct. 27, families are welcome to the town's Youth Center, 2795 Church Road, for a fun evening (6-8 p.m.) of free Halloween activities. Recreation Director Mike Ranalli said he's really looking forward to this year's installing of the party, which will include hayrides (weather permitting), crafts, candy apples, beverages, and a brand-new haunted house in the back garage behind the Youth Center.
Ranalli also encouraged kids and families to dress up in their best costumes for a chance to win in the costume contest.
"Absolutely. We want costumes. We want everybody dressed up. ... The creativity of the costumes is definitely, by far, the best part of the night," Ranalli said.
Ranalli added that this event is possibly his favorite event of the year, and he loves seeing the center filled with kids having fun.
"We usually get anywhere between 300-400 people in the gym," Ranalli said. "We do the hayrides and those are usually a big hit. There's usually a line there until 8:30, 9 o'clock."
Ranalli said he's interested to see how the new haunted house runs this year.
"Behind the gym, we have a garage that's about 2- or 3-years-old. It was just full of junk. This year, we pulled out all the junk and ... actually built a haunted house in that garage, which will be like the new thing this year. I'm really looking forward to that. ... I think it's gonna be pretty cool for the kids," Ranalli said.
Ranalli welcomed the community to come and enjoy what the event has to offer and looked forward to seeing the gym filled once again.
For more information on the event, one can call the Recreation Department at 716-731-3942.
