Sam Fuster recently built a compost bin at Stella Niagara Education Park as the final project in his efforts to become an Eagle Scout. The compost bin will be used by the school as part of their Integrated Outdoor Education.
Fuster is a senior at North Tonawanda High School and a member of Troop 539 at the Kenmore Presbyterian Church. Troop 539 is one of the oldest in the country, celebrating 105 years of service in Western New York.
Fuster built the compost bin at Stella Niagara Education Park on Saturday, Sept. 29. The compost bin will be used by the school to compost food waste from the dining room as well as organic matter from around the school's 104-acre campus.
Stella Niagara Education Park integrates traditional classroom teaching with innovative outdoor experiences. Mrs. Edwards, the school's outdoor education teacher, will include lessons about composting into the school's curriculum and utilize the compost in the school's garden.
