Fahim Mojawalla hosted visitors from Grand Island's Golden Age Center Wednesday in what he calls the Celebration of Inspiration.
The effervescent proprietor of the Island Ship Center, 1879 Whitehaven Road, Mojawalla told the 17 visitors from the senior center that after 12 years in business many people on the Island know him now, but when he first started out, "You were there for me when no one knew me."
The group played games like popping bubble wrap and "Shipping Bingo," in which everyone won a prize.
"He had us singing last time," another visitor said of last year's Celebration of Inspiration.
The bingo game taught the participants about some of the services the Island Ship Center now offers, "63 services and growing," Mojawalla said.
"I didn't know about cell phone repair," said one. "I didn't know about shredding."
Mojawalla, the 2015 recipient of the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award for community leadership, reminded the golden-agers about new hours at what he calls the "Spa of Shipping": open every day weekday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., except Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m. but including holidays; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Mojawalla gave the visitors a heads-up about the third annual purse party, which he said will take place Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Island Ship Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
